The X-ray Filtered Sun
The image you see here was taken through a filter which transmits only
low energy X-rays. Low energy X-rays are often referred to as soft
X-rays.
X-rays from the Sun are produced by hot gas of more than one million
degrees. This gas exists in the highest layer of the Sun called the
corona. Do you notice any correlation between this image and the other
solar images?
This picture of the Sun comes from the Soft X-Ray Telescope on the Yohkoh
spacecraft, orbiting high above the Earth.
