LASCO and EIT observed a halo CME today, 2000/07/25. The event was first seen in C2 at 03:30 UT, as a faint front over the S pole. Although faint, the CME could later been seen all around the occulting disk in C2 and C3, while remaining most visible in the S. The measured speed in the plane of the sky was 532 km/s at PA 180 (S pole). EIt observed a M8.0 flare in AR 9097, located at N06 W01, beginning at about 02:48 UT. EIt also observed coronal dimming, mainly to the south of this AR. This activity was probably associated with the halo CME observed by LASCO. Images and movies of this event are available at the LASCO ftp server: ftp://ares.nrl.navy.mil/pub/lasco/halo/20000725. Best wishes, Simon Plunkett.
